Student Services

At ICRGU we understand that moving abroad to study at university is a really big step. Therefore, we provide all the services you need to help you settle into life in Aberdeen and make the most of your time in the UK.

Our services are free, and as an ICRGU student, you will also be able to use many of the university facilities and additional services too.

Orientation program

Orientation is a series of activities and workshops where you will receive valuable information to help you settle into ICRGU. During orientation you will:

  • select and enrol in modules
  • create a timetable
  • receive your Robert Gordon University student ID card
  • be introduced to ICRGU services and facilities
  • tour the university campus
  • meet new friends and ICRGU staff
  • get help opening a bank account
  • get an introduction to the fantastic city of Aberdeen

Academic support

You may find studying in the UK different from your previous educational experiences. So to help you, ICRGU's dedicated team of academic professionals and support staff will guide, assist and encourage you throughout your studies.

The ICRGU syllabus and the academic services are specifically designed to help you develop the core knowledge and skills you need to successfully complete your pathway at Robert Gordon University.

Personal support

ICRGU takes your non-academic needs very seriously. Our dedicated student services team will be available throughout your studies to provide ongoing support. The team can also give you advice and support to help you settle into your new home quickly, and are always happy to help with any questions or difficulties. We also have a dedicated emergency phone line for ICRGU students, making help available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


The RGU Students’ Union, RGU:Union, is all about making the student experience the best it can be. The purpose of the Union is to support students by providing a number of different services and opportunities to get involved in. The union is the base and meeting point for the university's sports clubs, societies and events. As an ICRGU student, you will also have access to RGU:Union. The Union has a brand new home on campus within the Georgina Scott Sutherland Centre in Aberdeen Business School. Here you will find  Student President's and Union staff, as well as a gaming room with FREE pool, games consoles and arcade games. There is also plenty of space to meet up with friends, socialise, eat  lunch or collaborate on projects.

Sports and activities

We understand you are coming to the UK primarily to study, but enjoying the university social life and participating in extra-curricular activities is important too. ICRGU runs sporting events and activities throughout the year, including a football tournament, and we encourage you to get involved.

As a Robert Gordon University student, you can also use the fantastic amenities at RGU:Sport, which include a swimming pool, a climbing wall, several gyms, tennis courts, hockey pitches, a basketball court and many other first-class facilities. Student memberships are subsidised.

Library services

Robert Gordon University boasts two libraries. Both stock an extensive range of books and journals that will prove invaluable during your studies. ICRGU students have full access to both libraries and can also use the attached PC suites and wireless networks throughout the university campuses.

Campus security

ICRGU has an active 24-hour, seven-day student emergency phone line that will enable you to contact a member of staff at any time. All Robert Gordon University facilities also include 24-hour security so you and your family at home can feel confident about your safety and wellbeing.

Religious facilities

Robert Gordon University has a fully equipped chaplaincy that includes a prayer room and specifically designed ablution facilities. There are also numerous places of worship throughout Aberdeen, catering to all religions.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires students to be able to demonstrate minimum subsistence funds  to cover their living expenses. For more information on this, please visit the UKVI Student Visa area 

You will need enough money to cover course fees and living costs (also called maintenance funds as above). Your monthly living costs may vary depending on where you decide to study.
