Who is this course for?   

This course is specially developed to provide an introduction for students to the skills and knowledge needed to progress into further undergraduate studies in Architecture through ICRGU.  

This course will introduce students to the key tools needed to develop an expressive personal portfolio for a university application to the International College at Robert Gordon University.

Delivered online, with a hands-on learning approach, participants will engage with the creative process by engaging with design workflows and acquire practical image-making and research skills


During the course, students will be expected to continue developing their assigned projects on their own time to share during group tutorials. By the end of the course, students will have a self-developed design portfolio which will offer them an opportunity to focus on their particular design interests 

How will I learn?  


Learning takes place online in groups of up to 20 students.  

Students will learn through online group tutorials, discussions, presentations, individual sessions and crits (what is a crit?) 

Workshops in making or drawing skills and working to brief  

Studio teaching and practice to develop design and presentation techniques while building a portfolio or evidence of artistic ability/ technical drawing skills  


What will I learn? 


The outline below is an indicitive plan and students will be required to undertake independent study to support live sessions. 

Week 1:  

Introduction to course

Sketching techniques, drawing and brief skills 


Week 2:  

Development of creative tools and techniques
Presentation skills for creative critique sessions


Week 3: 

Portfolio Development and final review week  

Evidence for entry to ICRU/RGU programme.  

Live sessions covering how to create a portfolio for ICRGU  

Applicants information:

This course is for pre-university - final year students or those seeking entry to university in September  2021. At a minimum, students must be aged 16 and over.


Entry Requirements

English Language

Classes will take place entirely in English. Students must have a good comprehension of English language to enable them to take part in classes and group tasks. A short interview or completion of a short assessment may be required prior to the course commencement.


Please note, applicants who wish to progress to Year 1 Architecture at ICRGU in September 2021, will be required to provide HKDSE English grade 3 or IELTS 5.5 with no score below 5.5.  


Artistic Ability


Students should have an interest in architecture/art and design and have some basic evidence of artistic ability to provide prior to the course.
