MSc Drilling and Well Engineering
Aimed at developing engineers to become skilled drilling engineers, this course will cover key areas including well design, drilling and operations management. You will benefit from the use of the University’s DART facility (Dynamic Advance Response Training). This state-of-the-art learning environment uses 3D graphics to represent a rig floor and the wide range of equipment and drilling processes currently used by the oil and gas industry.

MSc Oil and Gas Engineering
Developed in collaboration with industry, this course follows guidelines set out by the Energy Institute, ensuring specialist course content is relevant and up to date. You will apply scientific, engineering and management skills to study key areas of oil and gas engineering. By graduation, you will be equipped for a rewarding career within the upstream oil and gas industry.

Interactive Learning Skills and Communication
This module is designed to bridge the gap between undergraduate level and the specialised demands of postgraduate study. You’ll learn the essential communicative skills needed to thrive at RGU. Beyond the classroom, you’ll cultivate a versatile range of abilities (written and oral) tailored for professional success; while developing independent learning and taking ownership of your academic development.

How will I be assessed?
Coursework: written assignment (50%); Coursework: Oral Presentation in defence of a research project (50%) Minimum overall pass mark of 40% (Grade D*) across all assessment events and a minimum of 35% in assessments.

How will I be assessed?
Coursework, evaluation of arguments exercise (10%), critical evaluation of a text (20%) final examination (70%). This module carries a standard minimum progression requirement: grade D / pass mark 40%.
Foundations of Research Practice
This module introduces the core principles and practices of academic research. This will empower you to navigate the complexities of scholarly inquiry and develop a sophisticated understanding of key research concepts. From exploring diverse research philosophies to conducting systematic literature reviews, you’ll be able to select and apply the practical tools needed to build a credible body of work.

Both MSc degrees are accredited by the Energy Institute. Students enrolled on MSc Oil and Gas Engineering are entitled to free membership of the Institute of Corrosion, Energy Institute or the Society of Petroleum Engineering.
