The course will cover essential skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. Upon successful completion, you will progress straight onto your chosen Master’s degree in law.

LLM Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law

During this course, you will critically assess and examine key legal issues in the oil and gas sector. The course covers basic legal concepts in depth before moving onto specific energy, oil and gas law content. The course is suitable for those with legal qualifications or with considerable experience in Oil and Gas or Energy, and by the time you graduate, you will have developed key transferable legal skills to drive your career further.

This 10-week Pre-Master’s programme has been designed to enable seamless progression onto Robert Gordon University’s postgraduate degrees. Developed alongside RGU, this course provides you with the skills, knowledge and focus needed to succeed at MSc level. You will develop a proactive and self-managed approach to business planning, project management, critical thinking and problem solving.

Interactive Learning Skills and Communication for Postgraduate Study

To develop a range of academic and communicative skills necessary for successful study at postgraduate level. To develop a range of transferable communicative skills (written and oral) to prepare students for professional life. To develop independent learning and encourage students to take responsibility for their personal, academic and professional development

How will I be assessed?
Coursework: written assignment (50%); Coursework: Oral Presentation in defense of a research project (50%) Minimum overall pass mark of 40% (Grade D*) across all assessment events and a minimum of 35% in assessments.

Critical Thinking for Postgraduate Study

To develop a range of critical thinking skills necessary for successful study at postgraduate level

How will I be assessed?
Coursework, evaluation of arguments exercise (10%), critical evaluation of a text (20%) final examination (70%). This module carries a standard minimum progression requirement: grade D / pass mark 40%.

Foundations of Research Practice

The Module aims to introduce students to the principles and practices of academic research. The module will enable students develop practical introductory understanding of key research concepts which include research philosophies, how to develop research questions, conduct literature reviews, and select suitable research designs.

Poster Presentation (30%); Research Proposal  (70%). This module carries a standard minimum progression requirement: grade D / pass mark 40%

Accreditations

Upon successful completion of LLM Law, you can obtain exemption from the Associate Membership of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) examination.

LLM Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Law is accredited by the Energy Institute. Students can apply for membership and benefit from the professional networking opportunities.
